Commission forms ad hoc committee to draft community survey for Blue Lake

Commissioners discussed multiple approaches to gather public input and agreed to form an ad hoc committee to draft survey questions for public distribution. Options discussed included an online SurveyMonkey survey linked from the city Facebook page or on water-bill inserts, printed copies at the resource center or post office, and in-person survey tables at community events.

One commissioner cited an earlier Glendale survey as an example of reach: "We had over 200 about 280 people ... do our survey," and colleagues said the commission should consider both online and printed formats to reach more residents. After discussion about open-meeting rules and ad hoc membership limits, the commission approved a motion to form an ad hoc committee (Sherry Green and another commissioner) to prepare survey questions, check with the city clerk on meeting rules, and return with draft questions at the December meeting.

The committee will also investigate distribution logistics — whether the city will post a notice and link on the official Blue Lake page, whether a QR-code insert on water bills is possible, and whether the post office bulletin can include a survey link. Commissioners said they would seek city staff guidance on whether the commission or the city should post or host the survey.
