Avoca council ends town-sanctioned bike events after resident complaints

Acting Mayor and Recorder/Treasurer Nanette Barnes told the Aug. 13 council that the town had received complaints about local bike events. Resident Kathy Henson raised concerns in public forum about 'the bike riders and bike events,' prompting council discussion on whether the town should continue to support such events.

Ald. Jordan Sullivan moved to withdraw town support and end any town-sanctioned bike events; Ald. Kathy Miller seconded. Ald. Kathy Hansen, Ald. Miller and Ald. Sullivan recorded unanimous 'yes' roll-call votes and the motion carried. Acting Mayor Barnes read an email from Matt Crafton about the complaints and said she will contact Crafton to inform him of the council's decision. The action directs town staff to cease endorsing or sanctioning organized bike events pending any future policy change.
