Council approves December Cycle Cross race; organizer agrees to pay for park damage

Jason Evans told the council he would like to hold a two-day Cycle Cross bicycle race similar to the event he organized the previous year and asked to close the street in front of town hall and to use both sides of the park on Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2. Alderman Jay King questioned whether racing would damage park grass; Evans agreed to pay for any damage that occurs.

A motion by Alderman Kathy Hansen to approve the street closure and event, seconded by Alderman Jay King, passed unanimously. The minutes record that Evans "would like to close the street in front of town hall and use both sides of the park for the two-day event starting Saturday, December 1st and ending Sunday, December 2nd." The council asked questions and voiced concerns, which the minutes say Evans answered; he committed to repairing or paying for any damage.

The minutes do not include a permit form, insurance certificate, or traffic-control plan; those documents are typical municipal requirements and should be filed with the town clerk before the event.
