Residents press company for dust, noise and pollution mitigation; applicant promises controls

Residents repeatedly asked how the operation will control dust, noise and potential pollutants. Commissioners asked whether the mine's fan and other equipment would direct particulate or noise toward town and requested decibel data for proposed fans and lighting plans.

Greg Hunt said the project will include state‑of‑the‑art sediment ponds and oil‑skimming controls, and that the company will work with the county on conditional‑use components related to lighting and nuisances. On noise, he noted a large fan the company had identified and said he planned to measure decibel output and include the data in engineering submittals. "It's gotta be out there somewhere," a commissioner said asking for the fan's decibel specification; Hunt agreed to provide measurements and mitigation options. Residents emphasized property values and quality‑of‑life concerns and said at least one pending home sale was withdrawn after buyers learned a mine was proposed nearby.
