Council workshop highlights roads, sidewalks and hydrants as top infrastructure initiatives

Staff presented infrastructure as the largest strategic bucket and listed initiatives including raising resident satisfaction with streets, making sidewalk progress under the Safe Routes to School plan, upgrading facility-management systems and implementing capital projects from the capital master plans. "We want to increase residents' satisfaction with the quality of our streets," staff said as a stated initiative goal.

Participants discussed the difference between initiatives and projects, noting that items such as completing the Adams Avenue sidewalk are project-level tasks that support initiatives. A public-safety-related initiative proposed by the chief to "improve hydrant viability through policies, procedures, and SOPs" was noted as an example of a targeted, measurable initiative. Staff asked tables to identify which infrastructure initiatives required further elaboration into measurable projects.
