Airport opens new concrete apron; major pavement projects proceed

Judd Hill of Lochner told the board the airport's recently completed aircraft parking apron expansion included approximately 10,300 square yards of concrete pavement and 11,000 square yards of asphalt pavement, creating more than 21,000 square yards of new aircraft parking capacity. Hill said portions of concrete that did not meet project specifications were removed and replaced at the contractor's expense, with final testing underway prior to final payment.

Hill also reported that the current pavement rehabilitation phase is ahead of schedule: milling operations have been completed, and reconstruction of the most deteriorated sections in front of hangars will use six inches of new asphalt. The firm commended the contractor for coordinating work to minimize operational impacts and noted lighting concerns around a future helipad area will be evaluated further and discussed at a future meeting.
