Multiple residents asked the council to prioritize rehabilitation of the Huachuca City Activity Center, including restoration of the kitchen and measures to make doors, restrooms and parking ADA‑accessible so the facility can host seniors and after‑school programs.
"I suggest getting the kitchen back in the Activity Center, and also making the Activity Center ADA compliant," said Diane Hildebrant during public comment. Manager Suzanne Harvey and SEAGO’s William Osborne discussed whether a single‑item kitchen project or a broader modernization would be more competitive; Osborne said specificity and shovel‑ready design work improve application scores and suggested the town could use SSP funds for planning and engineering before applying for CDBG implementation dollars.
Councilmembers and other residents said a modernized Activity Center could generate rental revenue, host job‑training or nutrition classes, and support weekly or home‑delivered meals for seniors. The town did not select a project during the hearing; staff will include the Activity Center idea on the compiled project list for later council consideration and potential inclusion in the regional account application.
