Vernon superintendent presents budget‑neutral reorganization and recommends assistant superintendent appointment

Superintendent Miss Fernandez presented the recommended 2026‑27 organizational chart and detailed a series of position conversions, transfers, and job‑description updates designed to strengthen instructional leadership and student support without increasing the district’s budget.

Fernandez said the assistant superintendent role will expand responsibilities beyond curriculum to include evaluation of principals and directors, compliance, student services and districtwide priorities; the position is not new net headcount but a conversion from an existing director role. She said the reorganization saved the district more than $14,000 through position conversions and benefit savings. The superintendent recommended board approval for an employment contract for Vincent Gagliostro as assistant superintendent for 2026‑27.

Board members asked about the budget impact and alignment with the strategic plan. Fernandez replied the reorganization aligns with strategic goals including curriculum coherence (K–12) and student support systems (MTSS/VTSS), and emphasized that some duties (McKinney‑Vento, nursing services) are being realigned to roles where they 'belong.' One board member said prior device policies and curriculum committee work informed much of the plan. The board moved to approve the organizational chart and associated personnel items on the consent agenda.
