Highway department reports quarterly workload, receipts and project updates

Miss Miranda, highway department staff, opened the highway department's 2nd-quarter report with a rundown of major projects and office activity. She told the commission the department documented 29 surveys and 2,883 land documents in the quarter and said the county added 80 surveys and 27 plats for the year; "we took in $221,462.59" in the quarter and year-to-date deposits are $414,005.87, the recorder's numbers show.

Why it matters: commissioners asked how the workload compared with past years and about staffing; Miss Miranda said the highway staff is operating at high volume with roughly 3.5 employees handling the recorded documents and project oversight. She outlined work on bridge projects (including Redbridge) and stormwater designs and said the department will bring more detailed cost and resident-impact information to the commission before decisions on expiring easements and other commitments.
