Trustees review proposed orientation policy for incoming members

Staff described a proposed Bylaw 9230 that would formalize orientation for incoming trustees. The orientation described in the draft would be held during open meetings and include background on district vision and goals, the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), student demographic and achievement data, district policy manuals, the budget, and minutes of recent open meetings.

"As early as possible, following the election or appointment of a board member, one or more orientation sessions shall be held during open meetings of the board," staff said while outlining the draft. Trustees asked whether the orientation materials are already prepared; staff replied that vision and comprehensive plans exist and that demographic data can be pulled from DataQuest. Trustees asked that a packet be assembled so new trustees could review materials before participating.

Staff said they would assemble and post the materials with the meeting video so the public and prospective trustees could access them. No formal vote was taken during the recorded portion of this discussion.
