Committee approves travel‑policy wording change to 'least expensive available fare'

Auditor Miss Wegman told the committee she wanted a simple housekeeping clarification to the county travel policy: replace the nonstandard airline class word “coach” with language instructing staff to seek the “least expensive available fare.” Wegman described the change as intended to clarify allowable reimbursements for departmental travel.

Committee members questioned how auditors or department heads would determine the "lowest" fare and whether baggage and seat selection fees would be reimbursed; Wegman said the department head typically certifies the fare and auditors rely on that determination, and the committee agreed that further procedural guidance could be drafted later. A motion to approve the wording change was moved and seconded and passed by roll call.
