The board received an update on the CRC Roofers Coliseum project and next steps for design and construction.
Events manager (S2) said a May 2025 voter-approved bond provided $41,600,000 toward the project, but construction costs exceeded initial estimates and the project needed to be rebid. Staff said they plan to hire a construction-manager-at-risk (CMAR) who will work to redesign within a guaranteed maximum amount.
S2 said SACRA is committing up to $9,000,000 for design services and any remaining bond funds will be applied to construction. The award of the construction contract to HOAR is pending city council approval. Board members asked whether the coliseum could be reopened for near-term rentals; staff replied that lead time for larger events typically requires 6–8 months’ notice and that the schedule depends on when construction and redesign are complete.
