Greenwich Committee introduces three cannabis ordinances, schedules July 22 public hearings

Mayor Orr called the Greenwich Township Committee to order June 16 and noted that notice of the meeting was posted on the township website and to local papers.

Committeeman Werley moved, and Deputy Mayor Reinhart seconded, the introduction of three ordinances addressing local cannabis regulation: Ordinance No. 94-2026, which vacates prior Township cannabis ordinances 92-2025 and 91-2025; Ordinance No. 95-2026, permitting the operation of certain classes of cannabis businesses within township boundaries; and Ordinance No. 96-2026, which would set municipal standards, application requirements, fees and administration for licensing cannabis establishments pursuant to New Jersey's Cannabis Regulatory, Enforcement Assistance, and Marketplace Modernization Act. Each ordinance was introduced on unanimous roll call (Ayes: Werley, Reinhart, Orr; Nays: none).

The committee moved the public hearings for these proposed ordinances to a special Township Committee meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. The township clerk was directed to post the meeting change and hearing notices on the township website and Facebook page. Because the ordinances were only introduced, no final action was taken and the public hearing will be the next opportunity for formal public comment and a final vote.

The introductions set a timetable for local regulatory decisions under the state cannabis law and will allow residents and businesses to testify at the July public hearings.
