Trainer demos live vote display and configurable timing for Shelby County meetings

Trainer (addressed in the session as Manny) demonstrated how to run electronic motions and votes from Granicus' Live Manager and how the public-facing display shows motion text, mover, seconder and a configurable vote tally.

"Once you hit this button, that's when the pencils are down and the hands are up," the trainer said while describing the moment the clerk records results and stops the vote. He showed that tallies can be set to appear for as little as five seconds in the demo or extended to 30–60 seconds for public readability, and that clerks can choose whether the web view shows each commissioner’s choice live or only a final tally.

The trainer also ran a test motion and used the "mark all yes" shortcut to demonstrate bulk entry; he emphasized clerks can edit recorded votes afterward if the recorded result should be changed or corrected. Participants asked whether the commissioner view will show individual votes on-screen; the trainer confirmed commissioners can see who has voted on their device while the public display shows the aggregate and, if enabled, live votes.

Why it matters: counties that broadcast meetings need readable vote displays for in-person attendees and viewers; the training emphasized setting a display duration that balances readability with on-screen clutter. The team agreed to set and test a default display duration before going live.
