Several nonprofits and library request county support for programs — food, recovery, library programming and chamber events

At the July 28 meeting several nonprofit leaders and the public library presented program metrics and funding requests to the commission.

Melissa King (Full Tummy / Chamber) said Full Tummy provided groceries to more than 600 students last year at a cost of approximately $140,000 and operates entirely with volunteers; she asked for county support to offset rising grocery costs. Sarah Mixon, director of the Andalusia Public Library, reported circulation of 27,872 items and more than 200 programs in the past year (a 75% increase) and explained that county funds directly support library programming. Andrea Miller described a recovery-support residence seeking operational funds and a vehicle; she said she has applied for state opioid‑settlement and mental‑health grants but asked the county for supplemental support.

"We last year serviced over 600 students... The groceries cost $140,000 to be able to do that," Melissa King said. Sarah Mixon added program metrics and asked the commission to continue funding for programming. Presenters said county funds would be used for direct services, program materials, accreditation and event support depending on each group's needs.
