County approves solicitation of annual bids for fuel, asphalt, seed, rock hauling and driveway material

Derek, a county staff member in public works, asked for permission to solicit bids for annual and short-term county needs — fuel, emulsified asphalt/prime, seed and fertilizer (six‑month term with optional renewal), driveway material, and rock hauling to be used for emergency response. He said the county will continue to rely on state bids as a fallback if local bids are not advantageous.

"We'd like to try this year and see what the prices we can get," Derek said, noting that rock-hauling contracts would be used primarily for emergency events (FEMA-level incidents) and are not intended for routine daily use. Commissioners authorized solicitation of the specified bids and agreed staff may renew a heavy-equipment-parts contract if the vendor agrees.
