Commissioners approve expansion of Axon agreement for prosecutor's office data handling

The board reviewed and approved an amendment to the master services purchasing agreement with Axon Enterprises (presented July 30). Administration described the change as an additional 10 years of service starting this year, characterized overall as an 11-year package once prior payments are counted, and said the amendment adds roughly $956,000 to the contract. Staff estimated the initial annualized increase at about $65,000 in year one.

Steve Simon of the prosecutor's office told commissioners the product addresses the overwhelming volume of digital evidence in criminal cases and will also assist civil staff who handle public-records requests. "Digital evidence is just overwhelming in criminal cases," Simon said, arguing the tool improves review, organization, storage and efficiency across divisions. Commissioners asked about contract length and opportunities to renegotiate as technology evolves; staff said the county's technical team felt comfortable committing for the multi-year term and would renegotiate future terms if major changes occur.

Action: The board moved and passed the amendment by voice vote. Administration said the department should internalize the additional recurring cost rather than expect a supplemental appropriation.
