Tunbridge board signs revised Windsor County Sheriff contract, corrects annual calculation

The Tunbridge Selectboard on July 3 approved a one-year contract with the Windsor County Sheriff's Department for the period July 1, 2026, to June 30, 2027, with the chair authorized to sign the revised agreement.

Staff reported the proposed contract uses an hourly rate of $78 and estimates 12 hours per week (624 hours per year), producing an estimated annual cost of $48,672. Aileen Lem noted the contract's annual-calculation language still reflected 14 hours per week and offered to follow up with the sheriff's office to correct that figure.

The board voted to approve the contract with the edit to the annual calculation; Mike McPhetres moved the motion and John O'Brien seconded. The minutes record "No discussion. Motion passed." The town's FY25-26 spend for Windsor County Sheriff services was $45,032; the town previously voted to level-fund the sheriff contract at $50,000 in 2025.

Acting Windsor County Sheriff Claude Weyant will attend the Selectboard's July 14 meeting for follow-up and any additional questions about hours and coverage.

The approval is procedural: staff will finalize the numerical correction and the chair will sign the updated contract before the contract's July 1 effective date.
