Board names sheriff, city and public-health offices as rabies contacts with amendment to include State Center PD

The Marshall County Board of Supervisors voted to appoint the Marshall County Sheriff's Office and the Marshalltown Police Department as the county's contacts for rabies follow-up and confinement and to add Marshall County Public Health as an additional contact.

Public Health Director Sydney Gruwell explained the change comes from an annual list the state veterinarian circulates identifying who handles rabies follow-up. Gruwell said the board of health met to align local operations and recommended listing multiple contacts—including a nonemergency phone number—to ensure the public can reach appropriate offices. During the motion, a supervisor amended the appointment to expressly include the State Center Police Department; the amended motion passed on roll call.

The action was administrative: it updates contact listings used by Iowa Department of Health and the state veterinarian's office and does not change statutory responsibilities.
