The McHenry County Public Health & Community Services Committee on July 30 voted to appoint Dr. Bonsak to the Board of Public Health for a three‑year term following a short interview.
Chair opened the interview by asking Dr. Bonsak to describe his background. Dr. Bonsak said he trained as a pediatrician in Poland, completed a U.S. residency in Chicago and now works "for veterans administration in, McKinley in office as a primary care physician." He told the committee he lives on a farm near Marengo and has been active in local community events. A member emphasized that board appointees must understand the relationship between the public health board and the county board and suggested Dr. Bonsak meet with Executive Director Melissa Adamson to review statutory responsibilities.
A committee member moved to approve the appointment and the motion was seconded. The committee voted in favor with an oral "Aye" and the motion carried. Chair thanked Dr. Bonsak for appearing and congratulated him on the appointment.
The appointment was presented as a recommendation by the committee to the county board; committee members noted the board's role in recommending candidates and the county board's authority over final appointments.
