Select Board debates upkeep of Leo Etheer Memorial Garden and a nearby playground slide

The Stamford Select Board reviewed the condition of the Leo Etheer Memorial Garden, established around 2006–2007, and discussed whether the town should take on maintenance duties after volunteers thinned. Chair described mulch and weed issues and said the family has been caring for the site in recent years.

"The family has been weeding and trying to take care of it," the Chair said, and board members discussed options: the town could offer to mow or edge the bed, ask the school to assume maintenance, or remove a single slide that sits outside the playground fence and complicates the garden footprint. One member advised approaching the school principal to clarify the original maintenance agreement before taking permanent action.

On the playground equipment, members cautioned that any move or reinstall is constrained by safety requirements: playground surfaces require certified wood chips, inspected bolts and compliance with supervisor-unit rules. The board agreed to ask the school board and principal about the original agreement and whether the slide can be removed or moved; in the meantime the Chair volunteered to edge and prune the bed to improve appearance.
