Commission debates 25-foot setbacks, private-road standards and driveway definitions

Commissioners tackled detailed bylaw text about setbacks, private roads and driveway definitions. One member advocated for a 25-foot setback and argued it would help preserve large trees: "I think driveways and private roads should be 25 feet," the member said. Other members noted trade-offs, pointing out narrow parcels or buildable constraints where a 25-foot setback might be impractical.

The commission also discussed standards for private roads—whether to require a 20-foot passable width for emergency vehicles—and debated how to define when a driveway becomes a private road (for example, when more than two homes are served or when lots are deeded separately). They directed staff to insert clear definitions and cross-reference dimensional standards in the bylaws.
