Select Board reviews dog-license delinquency list, directs dog officer to handle outreach

Clerk staff presented a list of dog owners who had not licensed their animals and said one reminder notice had been sent. Board members discussed past practices, the possibility of phone outreach and whether a monetary fine should be applied after warning notices. Several members noted that one or two reminder notices typically reduce the number of delinquent licenses.

The board asked that the town’s dog officer, Luke, make initial phone calls to those who remain unlicensed and that staff follow the town’s existing policy for later steps. As one member put it: "Luke gets paid to be the dog officer. Let him do it," and staff agreed to proceed with reminders followed by fines if necessary.
