Mark Animal Health requests DelDOT deterrents after staff report shoulder use and near misses

Nelson Busch, representing Mark Animal Health, told the DELTA committee that employees and contractors are using the shoulder at the facility’s entrance to bypass turning vehicles, creating several close calls and some T‑bone accidents. "So there's roughly 350 employees there," he said, and noted that additional contractors attending construction work can raise the daily total. Busch asked DelDOT to consider low‑cost deterrents such as flexible delineator posts to prevent shoulder bypassing.

Peter of DelDOT said he would review historical studies before recommending an improvement and cautioned that some countermeasures (like delineators on pavement) create maintenance concerns during snow removal or if vehicles strike them. DelDOT and the company agreed to coordinate on site inspections and pursue solutions that balance access for the facility and safety for drivers and employees.
