Councilors urge professionalism, propose email rule and rules-of-order changes

Multiple councilors devoted their comment period to concerns about conduct, internal communications, and proposed rule changes after a contentious prior meeting.

One councilor read a prepared statement urging the council to "model the professionalism we expect from others" and said they had received harassing calls and criticism in the wake of recent meetings. The council discussed adding a written rule requiring that "all emails between councilors and town staff must include the town manager and council chair" as part of unfinished business to ensure clearer internal communication.

Council members thanked staff for their service and asked staff and legal counsel to help administer any mediation or rule-amendment process. The chair and several members said they would work to bring proposed wording forward as unfinished business for a future vote.
