Afton council authorizes Silver Star access-point agreement; mayor recuses

The Afton Town Council on Aug. 12, 2025, authorized an Equipment Space Use Agreement allowing Silver Star to place Wi‑Fi access points on town buildings and parks for a three‑year Smart City pilot. Town Attorney Brandon Taylor described the agreement as an access‑point arrangement with no immediate financial obligation for the town; the council voted to authorize the agreement and have Town Administrator Violet Sanderson sign it.

Mayor Jeff Jensen left the council room during the discussion to avoid a conflict of interest because of his employment with Silver Star and did not participate in the vote. Council Member Scott Griffith moved to authorize the agreement and Council Member Will Wilkes seconded; the motion carried. The council noted that while there is no initial town expense, potential future costs could arise if the program’s financial model changes.
