Medford board approves referendum question for $22.67 million school bond; vote unanimous

The Medford Area Public School District Board of Education voted unanimously to accept an initial resolution authorizing general obligation bonds not to exceed $22,665,000 and to place the question before district voters at the Nov. 5, 2024 election. The bond is intended to pay for a high school addition and renovations for technical education, classrooms and accessibility improvements, along with capital maintenance, safety and systems upgrades across district schools and new furnishings and equipment.

Board Member John Zuleger moved to accept the referendum question as presented, seconded by Corey Dassow; the roll call recorded Yes votes from Hallgren, Deml, Balsis, Dassow, Fleegel, Zuleger, Everhard, Nuernberger and Werner. The board then adopted a companion resolution directing the District Clerk to publish notices in The Star News, prepare ballots in accordance with Wisconsin statutes and notify the Department of Public Instruction per statute requirements. The resolution outlines canvass procedures and deadlines for ballot preparation and absentee voting.
