Council passes ordinance barring obstructions in hydrant easements

The Afton Town Council on Aug. 12 passed Ordinance 697 on second reading, a measure designed to prohibit landscaping and other obstructions in town easements and access areas to fire hydrants and other infrastructure. Mayor Jeff Jensen presented the ordinance and Council Member Scott Griffith moved to pass it with stated revisions; Council Member Will Wilkes seconded and the motion was approved unanimously.

The ordinance seeks to ensure emergency and maintenance access to hydrants and other critical infrastructure. The action follows a resident request earlier in the meeting to discuss relocating a hydrant at 288 Young Lane; town staff noted hydrants are located per town standards and relocation costs would be borne by the homeowner if pursued.
