Afton agrees to $16,799 local match for TAP Safe Routes planning grant

Mayor Jeff Jensen told the council Lincoln County has been awarded $250,000 from the Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) to conduct a comprehensive planning review of the Safe Routes to School network. The county requested Afton assist with the local match requirement of $16,799.00; Council Member Scott Griffith moved to allocate $16,799.00 from engineering/professional services and to authorize Town Administrator Violet Sanderson to coordinate with county officials. Council Member Will Wilkes seconded the motion and it carried unanimously.

The planning study is intended to inform future capital projects that could leverage TAP and Safe Streets for All (SS4A) funding. Council members discussed the scope of work and the potential for future projects to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety near town schools.
