Public comment produced two distinct proposals for honoring service beyond the park’s core design.
Edward Fox, a 40‑year Carlsbad resident and former Army Medical Service Corps captain, praised the park design and proposed adding a symbol of peace—peace poles with inscriptions such as "May peace prevail on Earth." Fox offered that Veterans for Peace could help fund purchase and installation.
Diane Lick described a military banner program she observed during travel and research—she said she counted more than 60 cities with similar programs—and asked the city to consider a program that displays photos of current or past local military members along Faraday sidewalks or other streets. She offered to share sample applications and research packets with staff.
Councilmembers thanked both speakers and asked staff to explore whether a citywide or corollary banner program could be pursued apart from the subcommittee’s park‑focused work.
