Healy Announces $93 Million to Modernize MassMutual Center in Springfield

Governor Maura Healey announced a $93,000,000 state investment to modernize the MassMutual Center in Springfield, saying the funds will be used over the next five years to upgrade the arena and strengthen the downtown economy. "So over the next 5 years, we'll see $93,000,000 to modernize this facility," she said, outlining the state's commitment to preserve the venue as a regional economic engine.

Healy said the work will include safety and accessibility improvements, upgraded ventilation and new fan amenities designed to attract concerts, conventions and sporting events. "We're making critical safety and accessibility upgrades, modern fire alarms and sprinkler systems, improved ventilation, and more comfortable facilities for athletes, fans, and the communities," she said. Local and state leaders at the event said the upgrades are intended to draw more visitors to downtown Springfield and support restaurants, hotels and small businesses.
