Danbury Board awards $3.43 million runway rehab contract to Empire Paving

Charles J. Volpe, Purchasing Agent for the City of Danbury, told the Board of Awards that six bids were received for the Runway 17-35 rehabilitation and that "the apparent low bidder was Empire Paving, Inc., with a total bid amount of $3,428,687.50." Volpe said Hoyle, Tanner & Associates project manager Nils Gonzalez, P.E., reviewed the bids and recommended awarding the contract to Empire as the lowest responsive and responsible bidder.

Airport Administrator M. Safranek moved to award Bid #05-25-26-03 to Empire Paving, Inc.; D. Garrick, Director of Finance, seconded the motion, which carried unanimously. Volpe noted Empire's bid was $138,492.50 lower than the next bidder and $321,462.50 lower than the engineering estimate. The Board did not record roll-call tallies in the minutes beyond noting unanimous approval.

The award completes the Board's procurement step; the City will proceed to execute contract documents and coordinate pre-construction scheduling with the airport and the project engineer, per the recommendation letter from Hoyle, Tanner & Associates.
