Board authorizes private-pay ABA providers to work in schools under MOUs and parental request

The board approved policy 6.4053 to allow private-pay applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy providers to work with students on campus when requested by parents and authorized by a signed MOU. The director said there are procedural requirements before any provider may enter a classroom, including a parental request and a district MOU; staff provided an email contact (APArequests@warrenschools.com) for requests.

A district specialist clarified that private providers may be present with a student but "it cannot supplant IEP services," and the policy allows principals and central office to manage exceptions and MOU compliance. The motion passed on 1st-and-only reading by voice vote; staff said they will publish the request procedures and ensure teachers are not surprised by provider visits.
