County Board liaison reviews low-residential study timeline, VHC site parking and Faith and Housing implementation

County Board member Susan Cunningham joined the commission late and said she was largely there to listen and to report on board-level work. She told commissioners that county staff had been triaging dozens of bills passed by the General Assembly and prioritized work necessary for state-law compliance; other bills and opportunities would follow in sequence.

Commissioners pressed Cunningham for updates about the VHC site and the state's Faith and Housing law. Cunningham said staff had posted (or planned to post) FAQs and a property list related to Faith and Housing and that the law's effective date was January 1, giving staff time to prepare guidance. On the VHC site, commissioners and staff said the county's request for roughly 80 parking spaces for the north parcel had been intended as underground parking in the original approach and that circulation, archaeology and hospital needs remain primary drivers for parking planning. Several commissioners urged continued attention to minimizing surface parking and maximizing green space where feasible.

Cunningham encouraged the commission to remain engaged on the low-residential study and offered regular check-ins between the commission chair and liaison to elevate issues to the board.
