Plan Commission recommends City Council approve Hawks Landing Road closure tied to Bonds Ranch Road/US‑287 corridor project

The Fort Worth City Plan Commission voted to recommend that City Council approve a physical closure of a portion of Hawks Landing Road at Bonds Ranch Road (VA-26012), a change the city and Transportation Public Works described as necessary to build a future bridge over the BNSF railroad as part of a multi‑segment corridor project.

Alejandra Ayala of Transportation Public Works (Capital Delivery) outlined the corridor improvements, said the work will be constructed in phases with design and construction partners including Tarrant County and TxDOT, and noted the city has allocated funds toward construction. Ayala said the closure is tied to bridge and frontage‑road work, and that interim traffic mitigation and pedestrian connections will be provided before the closure. “This closure won't happen till 2029,” Ayala said, adding the city and partners plan interim improvements and shared‑use paths to maintain pedestrian connectivity.

Engineering manager Raul Lopez echoed the necessity of the closure: “For us to be able to build a bridge… we have to collapse the road because it's physically not possible to have the bridge and the access through that road,” he said. Commissioners asked about phasing and signal timing; staff said TxDOT plans corridor construction beginning in 2027 with phased improvements and that the city will hold a preconstruction public meeting to brief residents. The commission voted to forward the closure recommendation to City Council by a unanimous voice vote.
