County approves $144,000 to replace cracked above‑ground fuel tanks

The Finance & Budget Committee approved appropriations to replace a failing above‑ground fuel tank, authorizing a combined $144,000 from existing county reserves.

Public works staff explained the tank's outer shell is cracked and the county wants to replace it preemptively to avoid inner‑shell failure. The request combined $30,000 from the motor fuel farm reserve (which staff said will be drawn down and replenished by year‑end) and $114,000 from the road machinery (DAP) fund.

Superintendent Kevin Hatos described available reserves and said that using these funds avoids tapping the fund balance or other budget lines; the committee approved the appropriation by voice vote.

The action covers procurement and replacement work for county fueling infrastructure and staff said they expect to monitor reserve replenishment at year end.
