Detention official urges reclassification of staff member to reflect added duties

A detention official told the board that staffing is tight and that one employee, Keanna, has assumed a broad set of duties including transports, medical appointments, Central Square system training and other administrative tasks. The official said reclassifying the position and adjusting the pay grade would reflect the work already being performed and would allow the county to retain necessary capacity.

County staff said the next step is to prepare a detailed job description and run a classification score under the county's grade and step system; staff noted internal advertising is required before a change. Commissioners agreed to move forward with the process and to involve human-resources staff (Amy) for scoring and classification.
