Board certifies West Lafayette school referendum language for ballot

The Tippecanoe County Election Board voted to certify the ballot language for a West Lafayette Community School Corporation tax‑rate referendum and to adopt Resolution 20‑26‑10, a ministerial act required under Indiana law.

Elections staff told the board the language was provided by the Department of Local Government Finance and presented to the county exactly as required under Title 20. "I certify to you as being exactly verbatim from the statute and recommend that you adopt resolution 20 26 dash 10 to place this on the ballot," staff said. Board members had no substitute language and approved the certification without amendment.

The staff representative said the school corporation and DLGF had signed off on the language. The board’s role in this instance was procedural: either accept the language as provided or reject it and require the school corporation to restart its process. The board approved the motion after a second and no opposition was recorded.

Board members noted questions over statutory phrasing elsewhere on the agenda but treated this item as a routine certification required to finalize what will appear on voters’ ballots.
