Subcommittee reviews LCAP metrics: mixed ELA results, gains for English learners and students with disabilities

The subcommittee reviewed a portion of the district’s Local Control Accountability Plan metrics, focusing on Goal 1 academic indicators.

Staff said the ELA metric showed a small districtwide change (about a 0.14 percentage-point decrease compared with the baseline) but that subgroups demonstrated gains: students with disabilities were up approximately 4.5 percentage points and English learners improved about 3.35 percentage points. The presenter noted that the homeless student group this year produced baseline data and could not yet be compared to prior years.

A committee member questioned whether a large target increase in math (from roughly 30 to 46 percent) was realistic. The presenter explained that many targets were written in 2023 from baseline data, that dashboard views often compare different prior-year columns, and that staff would revisit target selection when writing the plan the following year.

Members discussed that some metric columns remain to be updated and that staff will collect outstanding data from site colleagues to finalize metrics and reflections required by the LCAP process.
