Paula told the committee the dashboard shows a 93.7% graduation rate (a late CALPADS reporting issue) while local counseling confirmation shows 100% graduation at Vasquez last year: "looking at our local data and confirming with our counselors at Vasquez High School, we did have 100 percent of our students who graduated last year." The board noted this has been consistent for several years.
On college-and-career readiness, Paula said the district's prepared metric rose to 45% and summarized how students earn the indicator: Smarter Balanced level 3 or higher, AP results, college-credit courses, CTE coursework and the state seal of biliteracy. The subcommittee also heard about AVID expansion—Michelle described increased AVID training, electives, advisory periods, college tours and parent workshops to build a college-going culture and career connections.
Board members asked whether non-AP students receive structured preparation; staff pointed to CTE options, counselor checklists and regular counseling touchpoints and offered to share materials with the committee.
