Residents press court on diversion program accountability and senior center changes

Several public commenters used their one-minute allotments to press the court on public-safety and local services.

Hien Wu asked directly about accountability after an individual with multiple prior offenses, released through the countys mental-health diversion program, allegedly abducted and critically wounded Nhung Le. "How is Harris County holding this diversion program accountable?" she asked, and called for immediate reforms to prevent other families from suffering similar harm.

Janet Valles, representing local seniors, said the Tube Boundary Community Center seniors were relocated to Flukinger without adequate notice and that the Baldry senior program would no longer exist, urging the court to retain at least one monthly bus trip that previously enabled heavy participation.

Court members acknowledged the comments and said staff would follow up; one commissioner told Valles that someone would follow up with details, and another vowed the court would pursue changes to avoid future tragedies related to diversion-program releases.
