Board considers shifting regular meetings to the first Wednesday each month; staff to check calendar

Board members discussed whether to move the board’s regular meeting dates next year to the first Wednesday of each month and agreed to check schedules before taking final action.

A board member reopened a prior, brief discussion about changing meeting dates and asked whether there had been further conversation. “At our last meeting, we opened up a tiny discussion on, perhaps moving the meeting dates of this body, next year to, like, the Wednesday or some such,” the Board member said. The Chair said the board could address the change at the December meeting to ensure the full year’s schedule is posted, and the Fire Chief suggested considering the change in November to allow time to check room availability: “Chairman, you might wanna consider that in November so we have time to check the calendar for this room,” the Fire Chief said.

Board members noted potential scheduling conflicts: one member, citing prior experience, said police commission meetings are usually evening meetings around 6 or 7 p.m., which could create overlap. No formal motion or vote to change the calendar was taken; the group agreed to research room availability and bring the item back to a future meeting for formal action.

The discussion concluded with the Chair and members agreeing to check calendars and return the proposed schedule change for formal consideration at a later meeting.
