Gardens of Andalusia seeks county support for a 12–18 month recovery residence for women

Andrea Miller, representing the Gardens of Andalusia, asked the commission to consider funding to help establish a recovery residence for women transitioning from treatment. Miller said the program would offer a 12–18 month stay with services (transportation, life skills, job connections) and that the group has applied for grants from the Alabama Department of Mental Health and state opioid settlement funds.

"We would provide a 12 to 18 month program... I also asked for funds to help me support operational costs," Miller said. She described seeking certification from the Alabama Alliance of Recovery Residences and requested assistance for a vehicle and program fees for residents (the program does not charge rent but seeks a program fee to cover operational costs).

Why it matters: the request links local recovery capacity to available settlement funds and state grant opportunities; commissioners were asked to consider a contribution that could leverage other funding. No immediate award was made at the meeting; the commission logged the request for budget consideration.
