Mayor Jensen announced multiple appointments and reappointments during the Organizational Meeting on Jan. 2, 2026. The council voted to concur with Michael Beatty’s appointment to the Planning Commission for a six-year term (Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2031). The Oath of Office for Beatty was administered by Judge Walther after the meeting adjourned.
The council also concurred with the reappointment of Mark Ladegaard to the Board of Zoning and Building Appeals for a five-year term (Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2030). Mayor Jensen reappointed William Greaney to the Civil Service Commission and David Morahan to the Landmarks Preservation Commission; Mary Johnson was reappointed to the Avon Tree Commission per Ordinance No. 70-21. The mayor reaffirmed earlier appointments of Richard Varga as Certified Arborist to the Avon Tree Commission and Matthew Smith as the mayor’s designee; the reaffirmations do not carry specified expiration dates in the minutes.
Council President Brian Fischer announced that committee chairs and remaining council committee assignments will be announced later in the month for two-year terms running through Dec. 31, 2027. Select council representative appointments to external boards were also listed, naming Scott Radcliffe to the Planning Commission representative role and Mary Berges to the Avon Tree Commission representative role.
