Design work continues for adult softball complex; parking expansion planned

Staff told the Deer Park CDC that work on the adult softball complex on Pasadena Boulevard remains in the design phase and that the project will include a parking expansion and new restrooms.

The staff member described plans to extend the parking lot around the north side toward the water tower and to demolish and replace the existing restrooms, adding an outdoor plaza with shade structures and heating elements. “What we're doing is, we're taking the parking lot and we're extending it all the way around the field on the north side towards the water tower, and we're redoing the entire restrooms,” the staff member said. Because of scheduling and funding choices, much of the work originally funded this year has been moved to the next fiscal year when most of the construction will occur.

Committee members raised concerns about parking constraints during events; staff said the expansion is intended to relieve pressure so additional fields can be used more fully. Staff also discussed potential conversion of an underutilized small field into recreational space and said funding for that work is planned next fiscal year.
