Board of Adjustments to consider corner-lot setback variance for homeowner carport

Peter (planning staff) presented a variance request to modify front-yard setback requirements on a corner lot at the intersection of 8th Street and an undeveloped portion of Federal Way so a homeowner can install a carport over an existing gravel area. He explained that city code treats both street-facing sides of a corner lot as front yards even when a street is not yet constructed, and that the planning commission reviewed the application and recommended approval.

Councilors asked clarifying questions about the site and adjacency; staff said the gravel area and the driveway-right-of-way relationship supported approval and that the item would appear on the board-of-adjustments agenda for formal action.
