Lancaster council waives city fees for Clear the Shelter event Aug. 1–31

The Lancaster City Council voted to waive city fees for the city’s Clear the Shelter adoption event set for Aug. 1–31, 2026, while keeping vaccination and microchipping requirements in force. City staff said the fee waiver is intended to encourage adoptions and is an annual partnership promoted with a local television partner.

"With your approval of this resolution, it allows us to waive our fees. The requirements to microchip, to get your rabies, do all the vaccination requirements are all still required," said the city staff member presenting the item. Council member Miss Burt said she pulled the item briefly to emphasize the event and to ensure the community is aware of the opportunity to adopt pets without paying city fees.
