Board waives insurance for June 19 Declaration reading and approves permits and licenses

The board approved an application for use of Madison County grounds for a June 19 reading of the Declaration of Independence by the All Iowa Republican Women and agreed to waive the insurance requirement for this one‑time 250th‑anniversary event. The chair said, "For the record, we're gonna be waiving their insurance for this particular time period," and the board added stipulations: the activity must remain on level lawn areas, not on steps or ramps.

The board also approved use of the courthouse lawn by the IowaWORKS Mobile Workforce Center for May 21, granted a temporary liquor and wine license for an event on June 27, and renewed an annual liquor and wine license for a local winery; each motion carried by voice vote.

The board noted the waiver was a one‑time exception tied to the anniversary event and directed staff to include the stipulations in the permit.
