Maya Lynn: Sterling Shores residents say park owner charges them for repairs, collects about $663,000 a year

Maya Lynn, speaking for Save Our Shelter, told the Lake County Board of Supervisors during public comment that residents of Sterling Shores Mobile Home Park shoulder repeated fees and infrastructure costs that she said the park owner does not pay.

"They bring in $55,000 a month from just us, $663,000 a year from just us," Lynn said, adding that the owner also has 13 other parks. She listed several charges residents have faced, including costs for fence repairs, roofing, paving and a recently announced 2% increase scheduled for October.

Lynn said residents pay for water, sewer and trash and are billed for repairs such as a seawall, plumbing and the main entrance fence, and asked the board for a clear update on county action. "So what are they spending their money on?" she asked the board.

A county participant told the meeting they would "reach out this week" to provide an update to residents. Lynn asked the board to consider whether the park owner’s nonprofit status should be challenged and requested that officials be forthcoming about next steps.

The public comment was made during the board’s timed public input period; the board did not take immediate formal action on the topic during the session.
