Lake County supervisors add animal-control advisory board to committee list, direct director to attend

The Lake County Board of Supervisors on a 5-0 vote approved adding the Lake County Animal Control Advisory Board to the board's official committee assignments, appointed two supervisors to serve as advisers, and directed the county animal control director (or a designee) to attend advisory-board meetings.

"Supervisor Owen and I brought this," the chair said, explaining the advisory board was originally composed of one public member from each of the five supervisorial districts plus two at-large members. The chair said supervisors had begun attending advisory-board meetings in early 2025 to assist the board with process and report preparation.

Carlos moved Part A to add the advisory board to the supervisors' committee list; the motion was seconded and carried unanimously, 5-0. The board then approved Part B, appointing two supervisors to serve as advisers, and Part C, directing the animal control director or a designee to attend advisory-board meetings, each by 5-0 votes.

The chair told colleagues he had spoken with Director Smith about directing the director to attend advisory-board meetings and said Director Smith "thinks it's a good idea." The board reached consensus that Supervisor Owen and the chair would serve as the two supervisors assigned to the advisory board.

The actions recorded during this item will be forwarded to county staff for implementation; the chair closed the item and moved on to the next matter.
